James Wiseman is an American pro basketball player currently for the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball League. He originally played college ball at the University of Tennessee, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science. Trained as an athlete, he began playing professionally with the Canadian professional team Sports Authority. Playing for them for two seasons, he was traded to the Sacramento Kings later that season.
He is listed at 7 feet, 0 inches, and 250 pounds. The draft picks Denver picks in this year’s draft are Kevin Hart, Zhou Qi, Aaron Gray, Daniel Goossens, Chinanu Moise, and Darius Miller. The Kentucky State Seniors have recently been drafted as well, with Woo Kwak and Darius Miller being selected first overall in the 2020 NCAA tournament. The only other Kentucky product among this year’s eligible players is senior forward Perry Stevenson. It appears that James Wiseman could be the steal of the decade when it comes to college basketball riches.
Coming into this Christmas season, James Wiseman has established himself as one of the best centers in the country. He has been voted into the All-Star team for the second straight year, where he is averaging a career-high in rebounds (11.4 per game) and blocks (2.5 per game). His career rebounding average is higher than any other Golden State Warrior and his block average is better than all but one of the league’s big men.
In the last two games against Villanova and North Carolina, James had a game to remember by scoring 18 points including three consecutive 3-pt shots to seal a home win. He has been named to the All-Star team once again but will be up against a more experienced conference foe in the NBA’s Eastern Conference this time around. This will be a big test for him to prove to the coaches in the NBA that he is worthy of a top-five draft selection. Jimmer Couch, Antawn Jamison, Ron Sellers, and Darius Miller are some of the other big men that will be in the spotlight when Villanova takes on the Blue Devils in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
Despite not being considered a superstar, James Wiseman has proven himself to be one of the best players in the country over the last couple of seasons. He has earned national acclaim as the top shooting guard in the SEC, averaging over 24 points and five assists per game. His athleticism and ability to score at will have made him one of the biggest attractions on the recruiting circuit. Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie has been raving about his point guard prospect for quite some time and has seen a lot of improvement in his game over the past year.
James Wiseman is still relatively young, as he is only a sophomore, but that does not mean that he is not dedicated to learning from the mistakes that he made as a freshman. This has been one of the biggest reasons why he has been invited to this summer’s Nike International Youth Basketball training camp in Las Vegas. The preseason camp gives new college athletes the chance to showcase their skills against some of the best prospects in the country, allowing them to show what they have to offer to college coaches. This is a very valuable experience for all participants and a crucial step in the development process for all freshmen.
So far, James Wiseman has impressed college coaches with his skills on the court, as he has notched a pair of double-doubles against powerhouse Kentucky, along with a strong showing in the NCAA tournament hitting a crucial three-pointer in the second half of a loss to North Carolina. However, even though the rave reviews have been positive all along, many do not think he has enough skills to play at the national level. This was highlighted by Billy Gillispie when he told reporters that he did not think that Wiseman has the athletic ability to play in the NBA, comparing him to point guard prospect, Kyle Walker, saying that Walker is a better athlete.
Despite the skepticism, James Wiseman has impressed enough to earn an invite to the Nike Hoop Summit, which will take place in April in Las Vegas. The chance to show off all of the skills that have made him a strong contender for the Neely Trophy as the nation’s top player in high school basketball has always been on the radar of many sportswriters covering the annual Nike Hoop Summit. While some have speculated about his ability to play at the NBA level, many believe that the hype is too much to be true. As strong as Wiseman has been at the high school level, there are some clear differences between him and other top prospects who have been invited to the Nike Hoop Summit. Perhaps it will be enough to help propel him into the college basketball limelight. If not, then it will surely serve as a reminder to other talented young players that they need to work on their game, especially if they want to join the top players in the NBA in the future.
